The Japanese artist who goes only by the male honorific returns with more of his anime/manga inflected paintings that dwell upon Japan’s otaku or “cute” culture. This time, the work is presented as part of an immersive environment that resembles the very untidy interior of a Japanese domicile as it might be inhabited by the characters from Half-Baked. The evident lack of housekeeping, according to Mr., is meant to be a metaphor for Japan’s emotionally depressed state following the 2011 earthquake and tsunami.
