Lehmann Maupin is looking for a highly motivated college or graduate-level intern to work in the Marketing & Communications Department, assisting with all departmental functions that encompass marketing, public relations, photography, archives, and administrative organization.

Founded in 1996 by partners Rachel Lehmann and David Maupin, Lehmann Maupin fosters the careers of a diverse group of internationally renowned artists, both emerging and established, working in multiple disciplines and across varied media. With locations in New York, London, and Seoul, the gallery represents artists from the United States, Europe, Asia, South America, Africa, and the Middle East. Known for championing artists who create groundbreaking and challenging forms of visual expression, Lehmann Maupin presents work highlighting personal investigations and individual narratives through conceptual approaches that often address such issues as gender, class, religion, history, politics, and globalism.

At Lehmann Maupin, our mission is to present groundbreaking exhibitions by the most significant contemporary artists and estates worldwide. We believe in the power of art to shape contemporary culture. Our business idea supports this expansive vision by advancing an international and diverse program, presenting first shows in new geographies, and building long-lasting curatorial and commercial relationships for our artists.

The internship position is an opportunity for a qualified candidate to gain a better understanding of how an international contemporary art gallery operates. The intern will support the Marketing & Communications team on projects related to image, web, archive, and contact management, and will also support the department’s organizational and administrative needs. This role will also touch digital content marketing, press and media relations, and artist and artwork research related to the gallery’s global programming.

An ideal candidate should be highly organized, articulate, self-motivated, and adaptable, with a willingness to learn and an educational background in Art or Art History. They should also be familiar with Microsoft Office, Mac OS, Adobe Creative Suite, and comfortable working in a fast- paced and dynamic work environment. Knowledge of ArtLogic is a plus, as is previous work experience in a gallery, museum, or other arts industry organization. Attention to detail and sophisticated communication skills, both written and verbal, are paramount.

This position is slated to begin July 1 and run through September. The intern will work on-site at the gallery’s office space in Chelsea, New York, for a minimum of 20 hours per week. The pay rate for this position is $16 per hour.
