Roberto Cuoghi (b. 1973, Modena, Italy) is a multimedia artist, working in painting, sculpture, digital animation, and sound. He is regarded for his drastic project where he physically altered his appearance to become his father, which laid the groundwork for many works dealing with transformation, hybrids, tests of endurance, and violence. His most recent work includes large-scale sound installations that create musical hybrids between the cultures of non-western and western communities, and ancient and current times.
Cuoghi has exhibited largely at an international level. His most recent solo exhibitions include da iḍā e piṅgalā a iḍā e iḍā o piṅgalā e piṅgalā, shown at the Aspen Art Museum, Colorado (2015), and Le Consortium, Dijon, France (2014). His first museum solo exhibition Šuillakku – corral version, a sound piece set in the time of the fall of the Assyrian empire was shown in the New Museum, New York, and ZOLOTO, Galleria Massimo De Carlo, Milan, Italy (2012), and the Hammer Museum, UCLA, Los Angeles, California (2011).
