Tobias Buche

Biography

Tobias Buche (b. 1978, Berlin, Germany) creates rough overworked sculptures comprised of collaged imagery meticulously mined from his personal archive. These collected photos and drawings – both found and created by the artist – link associations between the cultural landscape, media, and personal memories. Presented as a series of sculptures on particleboard, his work asks the viewer to navigate the space and investigate one's own relationship to the groupings. The Kunstverein Braunschweig recently held a solo exhibition of Buche's work, which is currently on view in "Unmonumental" at the New Museum of Contemporary Art, New York. Selected group exhibitions include; "Conditions of Display", The Moore Space, Miami, FL; "Construction Time Again," Lisson Gallery, London (all 2007). "Street: Behind The Cliché," Witte de With, Rotterdam; "4th Berlin Biennial for Contemporary Art", Berlin; "Trial Balloons", MUSAC, León (all 2006). Buche recently curated "The Gone Wait" at Gagosian Gallery, Berlin.
